No. 1 Georgia is a prohibitive favorite to keep its perfect season intact and remain undefeated when it plays host to Charleston Southern, an FCS program, between the hedges on Saturday afternoon at Sanford Stadium in Athens, Georgia. The Bulldogs' defense continues to shine and has become one of the top units in college football since the turn of the century. Quarterback Stetson Bennett IV is now entrenched as the unquestioned starter for the Bulldogs and has a perfect chance to hone his skills heading into the SEC Championship Game on Dec. 4.
Charleston Southern is 4-5 on the season and coming off of a 32-24, double overtime win over Garnder-Webb last weekend.
What should you expect on Saturday afternoon? Let's break down the game.
Georgia vs. Charleston Southern: Need to know
Bennett is the man: Can we stop referring to Bennett as a "game manager?" It's clear at this point that he makes a difference. Bennett is second nationally at 10.9 yards per attempt and Pro Football Focus pointed out that he is the most accurate passer in the country (60%) on passes that travel at least 20 yards downfield. What's more, he's a significant threat on the ground as we have seen throughout the course of the season. It'll be fascinating to see how coach Kirby Smart uses him this week considering the rivalry with Georgia Tech and the SEC Championship Game await.
Jordan Davis' Heisman campaign: The massive nose guard for the Bulldogs is creeping up Heisman odds boards and has the chance to pad his stats against the Buccaneers. With that said, his stats are just part of the story. The impact that Davis makes gobbling up double teams has allowed his teammates to flow around him and disrupt plays even if Davis doesn't make it into the backfield. This is a matchup that can prove just how good Davis is in both of those departments.
Will Cook ... cook? Running back James Cook was the star of the show last week in Georgia's win over Tennessee, rushing for a career-high 104 yards and three total touchdowns in the 41-17 win. How much will he be used this weekend? Zamir White is the traditional No. 1 for the Bulldogs, but Cook and Kenny McIntosh have also provided plenty of diversity for offensive coordinator Todd Monken. Will Monken get Cook involved in a variety of ways for the second straight week? It might be a focus as the preparation for the playoff run heats up.
