Black Friday Apple TV Deals
Both models of the video streaming device are currently on sale for $10 off at Amazon. That might not be a mind-blowing deal, but at least it's something. Apple TV 4K vs. Apple TV HD
Perhaps you’re wondering what the difference is between Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD. The primary difference is in the resolution output the devices can handle. The 4K model has the powerful A12 chip, which lets it output high frame rate 4K HDR video. It’s also compatible with Dolby Atmos sound. This 4K model is the you’ll want if you have a 4K TV or plan to get one during the time you’ll use the Apple TV.
Apple TV HD runs on the less powerful A8 chip and can only output video up to 1080p resolution. This is fine for people with 1080p televisions, but if you’re planning to upgrade to 4K in the coming years, it’s probably wiser to choose the 4K model. The HD model also supports Dolby Digital Plus 7.1 surround sound, while the 4K one supports the more versatile Dolby Atmos.
Either model you choose, you’ll also get the second-generation Apple TV Siri Remote. This latest version of the remote addresses many of the complaints people had about the previous models. It’s easy to tell if you’re holding it correctly, even in the dark. It has a circular clickpad at the top that you can use to navigate forward and backward through videos. It also has a Siri button on the side, which engages the voice assistant and lets you open apps, movies, or TV shows with vocal commands.
Software-wise, the two models are the same. They offer access to the same streaming services, including Netflix, HBO Max, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ and, of course, Apple TV+. You can also play Apple Arcade games on Apple TV, use it for Apple Fitness+, and Apple Music.
