When people in America are asked which holidays are there favorite, no one seems to mention Super Bowl Sunday.

This is very strange because it is very clearly a holiday in every sense of the matter—the food, the tradition, the celebration (and did we mention the food?)—and it is, quintessentially, American.

Should you observe Super Bowl Sunday, you may find below the top 10 football movies (as ranked by the movie experts at Redbox) you can watch before the big game to get you into the holiday spirit:

'Rudy'

Sean Astin in "Rudy." (TriStar Pictures)

Stream on: Amazon Prime Video

“Rudy” stars ye olde Samwise Gamgee (Sean Astin) as a young man who chases his dream to play for the Notre Dame football team despite being on the shorter (dare we say, “more hobbit-like”) side. If you ever need a good pump-up film that really hones on the “never give up” mantra, “Rudy” is it.

'Remember the Titans'

"Remember the Titans." (Walt Disney Pictures)

Stream on: Amazon Prime Video; Disney+

Kids who grew up in the early 2000s probably remember watching this movie at school during free periods and, boy, did it never get old. The film tells the story of Coach Herman Boone (Denzel Washington) who is tasked with handling a recently integrated football team in the 1970s. The movie has since become a favorite, and is recognized as one of the greatest football movies of all time.

'The Blind Side'

Quinton Aaron in "The Blind Side." (Warner Bros. Studios)

Stream on: Amazon Prime Video; HBO Max; Hulu

“The Blind Side” is based on the true story of Michael Oher (Quintin Aaron), a down-on-his-luck team who’s taken in by Leigh Anne Tuohy (Sandra Bullock) who helps to push him to hone his skills as a football player. “The Blind Side” is also well-known for its feel-good vibes and inspiration-inducing plot.

'We Are Marshall'

Matthew Fox and Matthew McConaughey in "We Are Marshall." (Warner Bros. Pictures)

Stream on: Amazon Prime Video; HBO Max

“We Are Marshall” is another football set in the seventies, this time starring Matthew McConaughey as a coach looking to build up a local community’s football team after they’ve suffered a great tragedy. Will the tears be jerked out of your eyes? Yes. Will your heart also be warmed? Also, yes.

'Friday Night Lights'

"Friday Night Lights." (Universal Pictures)

Stream on: Amazon Prime Video; HBO Max; Hulu

If you’ve ever heard someone say the phrase, “Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose,” you’ve already heard the most famous line from “Friday Night Lights.” The movie takes place in a small Texas town that’s pretty obsessed with their high school football team. Problems arise when one star player is injured, though, and the town loses faith in both the team and itself. Enter Billy Bob Thornton, who storms in ready to restore that faith.

'Any Given Sunday'

"Any Given Sunday." (Warner Bros. Pictures)

Stream on: Amazon Prime Video; HBO Max

Al Pacino brings his usual intensity as Tony D’Amato in “Any Given Sunday,” the coach of the ailing Miami Dolphins who is, shall we say, emphatic about his team’s status. The movie shows a bit of the grittier side of football, but therein lies its appeal.

'Varsity Blues'

Amy Smart and James Van Der Beek in "Varsity Blues." (Paramount Pictures)

Stream on: Amazon Prime Video

James Van Der Beek leads in this movie as a high school student who is thrust into center stage of his football team after the star quarterback (Paul Walker) sustains an injury. The film shows the amount of pressure kids can feel in their formative years, and how resilient they can be in enduring it.

'Draft Day'

Chadwick Boseman and Kevin Costner in "Draft Day." (Summit Entertainment | Lionsgate)

Stream on: Amazon Prime Video

“Draft Day” sees Kevin Costner as Sonny Weaver Jr., the GM of the Cleveland Browns who’s dealing with a slew of personal issues right before the NFL draft. The film boasts a stellar cast which boasts the likes of Dennis Leary, Chadwick Boseman, and Jennifer Garner.

'Jerry Maguire'

Tom Cruise in "Jerry Maguire." (Sony Pictures)

Stream on: Amazon Prime Video

Some people may view “Jerry Maguire” more as a nineties romance movie, but, hey, there’s romance in football, too! The plot follows a sports agent as played by Tom Cruise whose professional life is thrown into turmoil after he’s fired from an acclaimed position. This movie, too, is full of the feel-goods as well as some of the finest performances from both Cruise and Cuba Gooding Jr.

'Little Giants'

Rick Moranis in "Little Giants." (Warner Bros. Pictures)

Stream on: Amazon Prime Video

One of the lesser-known football films out there, “Lesser Giants” stars Rick Moranis as Danny O’Shea, a nerdy guy (shocking) that takes on the challenge of coaching a team of misfits that are looking to prove themselves to their community. And, seriously, it’s Rick Moranis—how could it not be worth the watch?
