WEDNESDAY
“The 100,” 8 p.m., CW. This show manages to leap between big-scope science-fiction and intensely personal drama. Tonight, it has three jail-cell duos: the heroic Octavia and the un-heroic Echo; Diyoza, considered a mass-murderer, and her tough daughter Hope; and Russell and a hesitant chess partner. Each encounter is intense and well-acted. And late in the hour, there are two fierce surprises. Also, viewers will learn the identity of the “True Disciple Leader.”
“Agents of SHIELD,” 10 p.m., ABC. Here’s some more high-stakes sci-fi, an hour after “100” concludes. The team has blown its cover and damaged the Zephyr. Now it must rescue Mack’s parents before another time-jump. Also, Daisy and Sousa face a power-hungry Nathaniel Malick.
“Black-ish,” 8:30 p.m., ABC. Barring a late switch — something that has happened a lot — ABC will bring back the comedy line-up it plans for fall. That includes “Black-ish,” which was going to be delayed until mid-season until network chiefs switched. In tonight’s rerun, Jack is cut from the basketball team, spurring a discussion of being short.
“Bulletproof,” 9 p.m., CW. We’ll have to forgive the opening scene, which has the cop-show cliché of a superior who just gets in the way. And another scene, with the cliché of racing to a site, rather than phoning someone. And a wildly improbable gun battle. And well, there’s a lot to forgive here. If we get past all that, we get likable British cops sinking deeply into undercover work.
AND STREAMING: As the holiday weekend nears, the streamers are busy. Today, Netflix has the “Unsolved Mysteries” reboot and HBO Max has a mega-list of movies; on Friday, Amazon Prime has the second season of “Hanna.” But the biggest steps are from Disney+: On Tuesday, it released “Black is King,” the Beyonce visual album based on “The Lion King;” on Friday it has “Hamilton,” the film (originally intended for theaters) based on Lin-Manuel Miranda’s brilliant Broadway musical.
