SURVIVING JOE EXOTIC 10 p.m. on Animal Planet. The Netflix series “Tiger King” took viewers on a wild ride inside the world of exotic-animal breeders by following the lives and rivalries of its many colorful characters. But according to some critics of the show, its conservationist message was drowned out by the drama. This special, however, focuses on the stories of some of the animals who were transferred from G.W. Zoo, the Oklahoma wildlife park formerly owned by Joseph Maldonado-Passage, a.k.a. Joe Exotic. Among them are two visually impaired tigers whose vision is restored at the Exotic Feline Rescue Center in Indiana, and two lions who are relocated to the WildCat Ridge Sanctuary in Oregon. The special also includes interviews with former G.W. Zoo employees, as well as footage that Maldonado-Passage filmed in 2018 as part of Animal Planet’s “Wolves and Warriors” show, before he was arrested.
TODD MCFARLANE: LIKE HELL I WON’T 11 p.m. on Syfy. The comic book industry has had its share of clashes between big-name creators and companies — mostly over creative and financial ownership. Todd McFarlane, the artist who created “Spawn” and a founder of Image Comics, is no stranger to fighting for control of his work. This documentary chronicles McFarlane’s decades-long career, including his work for The Amazing Spider-Man series and his decision to walk away from Marvel. It also explores his foray into the toy industry and the legal struggles he faced as a result of challenging the industry’s status quo.

DAYS OF THE WHALE (2019) Stream through virtual cinemas. In this Colombian feature, written and directed by Catalina Arroyave Restrepo, two young graffiti artists, Cristina (Laura Tobón) and Simon (David Escallón), find solace creating art together on the streets of Medellín, avoiding their troubles at home. But when a local gang starts taunting Simon and tries to extort money from a local youth house, Cristina and Simon enter into a struggle between art and power. The film “is mostly an account of the pleasures and pains of adolescent days at liberty,” Glenn Kenny wrote in his review for this New York Times Critic’s Pick. “The cast is appealingly natural, the cinematography subtly seductive, and the Colombian pop songs on the soundtrack establish a sinuous groove.”
ROGUE TRIP Stream on Disney Plus. As a war correspondent for ABC News, before he was injured by a roadside bomb in Iraq in 2006, Bob Woodruff traveled all over the world covering violent conflicts. Woodruff, who has since recovered, has not let the incident affect his passion for exploring distant places. In this six-part series, Woodruff and his son, Mack, explore regions of the world that have a history of conflict, but they focus on a different side of these destinations. Together they visit Colombia’s waterfalls, Ethiopia’s hot springs and an artificial reef in the Mediterranean Sea that was built using tanks and fighter jets — and log some serious father-son bonding time in the process.
