ATHLETE A (2020) Stream on Netflix. In August 2016, The Indianapolis Star published an investigation into U.S.A. Gymnastics, which failed to report sexual assault accusations about several of its coaches. Not long after, the newspaper reported accusations of repeated sexual assault against Lawrence G. Nassar, a doctor who treated hundreds of young women and girls, many of whom were on the U.S. Olympic and World Championships teams. This documentary follows the reporters who broke the story, chronicling the hurdles they faced as they sought to expose U.S.A. Gymnastics, and features Maggie Nichols, a gymnast who helped bring these accusations to light.
OLIVIA (1954) Stream on Criterion. “A fascinating study of love and repression by Jacqueline Audry (1908-1977), a French director who has long been hiding in plain sight,” “Olivia” is a landmark of feminist, lesbian cinema, J. Hoberman wrote of its revival for The New York Times. The story is based on a novel of the same title by Dorothy Bussy, published in 1949, before its film release in France in 1951. By its 1954 New York release, however, the film had taken on a new title: “Pit of Loneliness,” adding to the feeling of tension in the French finishing school where the story takes place. The school is run by two head teachers, Miss Julie (Edwige Feuillère) and Miss Cara (Simone Simon), who compete for the affections of their students. But their dynamic is thrown into disarray when Olivia (Marie-Claire Olivia), a new student with a crush on one of the teachers, comes to the school. The result is “a compound of velvet innuendos — polite, discreet and finely wrought,” Bosley Crowther wrote in his 1954 Times review.
BUFFALOED (2020) Stream on Hulu. Peg Dahl (Zoey Deutch), a Buffalo, N.Y., native, is a natural hustler. She resents her city’s stagnant economy, and she’s determined to be financially independent; not even a stint in jail for forgery could stop her. But when Peg secures a desk in a fraudulent debt-collection agency, she finds her true calling. It isn’t long before Peg takes her talents elsewhere, and the shop she starts with a crew of misfits leads to an interagency feud. “Simultaneously rowdy and slick, ‘Buffaloed’ is exuberantly paced and entirely dependent on Deutch’s moxie and pell-mell performance,” Jeannette Catsoulis wrote for The Times, adding that “Brian Sacca’s script is zippily entertaining.”

MARRIED AT FIRST SIGHT: COUPLES’ CAM 8 p.m. on Lifetime. This spinoff of “Married at First Sight” follows couples who met during 10 seasons of the original show as they navigate domestic life together. Through mounted cameras, diary cams and video chats, viewers get an intimate glimpse into the lives of their favorite “Married at First Sight” participants. The series culminates in this season finale, where Shawniece prepares for her business opening, Austin hosts Jessica’s graduation party, and Danielle and Bobby get their pregnancy test results.
