TUESDAY
“World of Dance,” 10 p.m., NBC. As the “duels” round begins, there’s lots of hype and posturing, pretending the joyous act of dance is actually a grim battle. Still, these dancers deserve plenty of — well, better hype. The first two duels involve talented groups — one offering vibrant quasi-bellhops. Then the night’s final match-up hits a peak — an individual (Kurtis Sprung) who projects deep passion and a duo (Styles & Emma) whose ballet skills create a sensual elegance.
“Lost on Everest,” 9 p.m., National Geographic, rerunning at 12:03 a.m. Back in 1924, George Mallory and Sandy Irvine were last seen within 800 feet of the top of Mount Everest. No one knows if they got further; it would be 29 years before someone officially reached the top. Mallory’s body was found in 1999; Irvine’s has never been found. Now a team re-traces their route. That’s followed at 10:03 p.m. and 1:03 a.m. by “Expedition Everest,” trying to install the world’s highest weather station.
“Stargirl,” 8 p.m., CW. Homecoming night at the high school brings Courtney some good news (a nice guy wants to date her) and bad news (a mean girl wants to kill her). That last part gets excessive, even by mean-girl standards; also, the step-dad’s you’re-not-ready-to-be-a-superhero scenes wear thin. But there’s a vibrant battle at the end of what turns out to be the start of a two-parter.
“POV: And She Could Be Next” conclusion, 9-10:30 p.m., PBS. On Monday, we saw Rashida Tlaib win a tight primary in 2018; in a one-party district, she would become one of the first two Muslim women in Congress. Now we see tougher post-primary races, including Georgia’s Stacey Abrams, trying to be the nation’s first black female governor. The result is long and slow, but involving.
“The Genetic Detective” season-finale, 10 p.m., ABC. CeCe Moore usually works on “cold cases,” but this is an exception: A Utah detective asks her to help with a crime just three weeks earlier when a 79-year-old woman was raped. Also in this hour, Moore sees the jury trial of the case featured in the series opener.
