BABYTEETH (2019) Rent or buy on Amazon, Google Play, iTunes, Vudu, YouTube and pay TV operators. What if, at 16, you knew your first love could also possibly be your last? That’s the question at the heart of this family drama, which stars Eliza Scanlen as Milla, a teenager grappling with the onset of a serious, and possibly terminal, illness. As Milla’s parents (played by Ben Mendelsohn and Essie Davis) struggle to deal with their daughter’s diagnosis, they become even more alarmed when Milla brings home Moses (Toby Wallace), a homeless and drug addled 23-year-old. “He proves to be a prince in greasy threads,” Manohla Dargis writes in her review for The New York Times. “A sad-boy fantasy who proves as pure-hearted as Milla, or rather as the story needs him to be.”

FORD V FERRARI (2019) Stream on HBO Max; Rent or buy on Amazon, iTunes, Google Play and Vudu. This Oscar-nominated film and New York Times Critic’s Pick reconstructs the Ford Motor Company’s attempt to build a car that would beat Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966. The American car designer Carroll Shelby (Matt Damon) partners with the competitive driver Ken Miles (Christian Bale) to take up the commission. In his review for The New York Times, A.O. Scott said the movie was “crisply filmed and edited, offering a reminder that movies and automobiles have a natural affinity and a lot of shared history.”

AKHNATEN Stream on The Met Opera website and Met Opera on Demand apps. The Met Opera’s season may be canceled until December, but classical music fans can still experience many of its performances from home. The company will share the first of two Philip Glass operas this weekend, starting on Saturday with the 2019 production of “Akhnaten.” The story follows the rule of the Egyptian pharaoh, who’s overthrown after spearheading a religious revolution. Staged by Phelim McDermott, the production features a troupe of jugglers and acrobats. In his review for The New York Times, Anthony Tommasini wrote that “the production largely succeeds at Mr. McDermott’s goal of presenting ‘Akhnaten’ as a ‘weird fever dream' combining ancient Egypt and the Victorians who fetishized it.”

THE GREAT AMERICAN GROOM-A-LONG 10 p.m. on Animal Planet. One bright spot about being homebound during the coronavirus pandemic is that more people have seized the opportunity to foster or adopt a pet. But shutdowns across the nation have also made it more difficult for pets (and their owners) to get a haircut. If your furry companion is getting a little too shaggy, Carson Kressley, the former “Queer Eye” fashion specialist, is hosting a show to help pet owners groom their dogs or cats from home. On this two-hour special, Kressley is joined by a group of professional pet groomers and stylists who will share some tips, as well as walk a few celebrity pet owners — including Dennis Quaid, Apolo Ohno and Aubrey O’Day — through the process of trimming, shampooing and primping their breed of pet, while viewers follow along at home.
