YouTube TV Adding 4K Streaming, Offline Downloads And Unlimited Concurrent Streams - Forbes

maleomales.blogspot.com

In a blog post, YouTube’s Chief Product Officer Neal Mohan outlined an upcoming add-on option for YouTube TV subscribers that will allow viewers to watch available shows in 4K, download DVR content for offline viewing and stream on an unlimited number of concurrent screens at the same time at home.

Mohan did not give any additional details on when the service would be rolling out the add-on, or what the extra cost of the package would be. Currently, YouTube TV is available in all 210 U.S. TV markets and costs $64.99 per month.

Currently, YouTube TV supports 1080p streaming, but not 4K, despite many channels being able to broadcast in that resolution. It also limits the number of concurrent streams to 6. It is worth noting that YouTube said it would allow concurrent streams at home, meaning YouTube TV users on mobile devices or outside of the home would likely still be under the 6 stream cap.

While YouTube TV offers unlimited DVR space, the company will begin allowing customers to save their programming for offline viewing.

Mohan’s blog post hints that subscribers would be able to take advantage of these new features in a bundle.

To date, only one other OTA streaming services, Fubo TV, offers limited programming in 4K. No other competing OTA services offer offline DVR streaming.

Mohan also disclosed the service now has more than 3 million paid subscribers and over 85 available networks.
