May the 4th be with you.
Yes, it’s that annual day of the year when “Star Wars” fans geek out over their No. 1 love. Unfortunately, most of them are having to do it from the safety of their homes, due to the coronavirus outbreak.
On the other hand, the Disney+ streaming service is honoring its first May 4 with plenty of “Star Wars”-themed programming. It starts with today’s release of “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” and the complete Skywalker saga.
But wait, there’s more, including the series finale of “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” and the series premiere of “Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian.”
The latter is an eight-episode documentary series in which executive producer Jon Favreau takes viewers behind the scenes of “The Madalorian.” Each episode explores a different facet of the first live-action “Star Wars” television show through interviews, never-before-seen footage, and roundtable conversations hosted by Jon Favreau.
Topics include the filmmaking process, the legacy of George Lucas’ Star Wars, how the cast brought the characters to life, the series’ groundbreaking technology, the artistry behind the show’s practical models, effects, and creatures, plus the creative influences, the iconic score, and connections to Star Wars characters and props from across the galaxy.
As for “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” the animated series will conclude its seven-season run with the finale, which drops today. It explores the events leading up to “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.”
To mark the day of “Star Wars,” the franchise shared a compilation video that, fittingly, delivers a message of hope during these uncertain times. The 100-second clip contains movie and TV footage from the “Star Wars” universe, from 1977’s Star Wars to 2019’s “The Rise of Skywalker.”
The overall theme? Something we’ve been hearing a lot lately: We’re stronger together and things will get better.
Or, as Yoda would say: “Fear is the path to the dark side.”
