This week on TV, we'll have the debut of "Barkskins" on Nat Geo, "The Genetic Detective" on ABC, "Game On" on CBS and a couple of season openers on Fox.
Sunday, May 24
“National Memorial Day Concert”
8 p.m., PBS, rerunning at 9:30. The Washington, D.C., event has been canceled, but the TV tradition continues for its 31st year of passionate tributes and powerhouse music. A small crew taped individual performances by country (Trace Adkins) and classical (Renee Fleming) stars, plus lots of Broadway talent. Tony-winners Cynthia Erivo and Kelli O’Hara perform; Tony-nominee Christopher Jackson sings the National Anthem a cappella. There are tributes and choral groups, new and from past years.

Monday, May 25
“Barkskins” debut
9 and 10:03 p.m., National Geographic; rerunning at 11:03 p.m. and 12:03 a.m. First, we must get over our disappointment that “Genius: Aretha” was postponed until fall. Then we can settle into an eight-hour tale that’s grim and brutal, but beautifully acted and filmed. Author Annie Proulx (“Brokeback Mountain,” “The Shipping News”) is descended from French settlers who arrived 15 yearsa after the Mayflower. This story tells of indentured servitude, mail-order brides and a scheming land grab.
Tuesday, May 26
“The Genetic Detective” debut
10 p.m., ABC. For three decades, the case was unsolved and, maybe, unsolvable. After traveling from Vancouver, a young couple was killed near Seattle. This wasn’t something linked to family, friends or enemies. Then the case went to CeCe Moore and her computer; two hours later, she had a suspect. Moore – a former actress (in theater and commercials) and model – pioneers a method that follows DNA through family trees, to find a suspect. In some cases (including here) it’s brought convictions.
Wednesday, May 27
“Game On” debut
8 p.m., CBS. Rob Gronkowski and Venus Williams tend to dominate in sports – but not here. Aided (somewhat) by Bobby Lee, Ian Karmel and two guests (Gabriel Iglesias and J.R. Smith), they try new skills. In the opener, Gronk pedals a stationary bike superfast, hoping to avoid a dousing; he tries a soccer kick and, with Lee, pushes against someone billed as the world’s strongest man. Like other summer shows, this is hectic and noisy; unlike others, it seems kind of loose and likable and just fun.
Thursday, May 28
“Council of Dads”
8 p.m., NBC. There’s a lot of summer silliness, so it’s refreshing to see a human drama, in the “This Is Us” mode. After taking a week off (for “Red Nose Day”), “Dads” is back with new worries. The fall holidays are coming and Robin feels lost: She’s a doctor; her late husband was the fun one who brightened the kids. He appointed three “dads” to help, but they’re floundering. Oliver (also a doctor) struggles with the latest transgression of one of the boys, Peter; also, Theo has shaky new influences.
Friday, May 29
“American Masters: Bombshell”
9-10:30 p.m., PBS. The first impression, Mel Brooks says, was memorable: Hedy Lamarr “was the best-looking movie star ever.” She grew up in a rich Austrian family, posed for nude photos at 16, did nude scenes in a movie at 18. But beyond that was a sharp mind. Lamarr kept labs in her movie trailer and at home. She created small inventions and one big one (a torpedo-guidance sysatem) that the Navy ignored during World War II, but partly adapted later. This rerun skillfully tells a fascinating story.
Saturday, May 30
“Flirty Dancing,” “Lego Masters” and “Ultimate Tag”
8, 9 and 11 p.m., Fox. Summer seems like a natural time for reality shows. “Survivor” and “American Idol” started there; “America’s Got Talent” (which debuts at 8 p.m. Tuesday on NBC) remains there. So it makes sense that Fox has these three reruns, hosted by Jenna Dewan, Will Arnett and the football Watt brothers. “Flirty” goes for romance, as strangers dance. The others offer season openers – a fun one at 9 p.m., as people combine for a Lego amusement park, and a noisy, messy sort of blur at 11.
