UNION, NJ — The time when TV would not show gay, bisexual or transgender people much less tell their stories was long, but thankfully it is over now.
Steven Capsuto, author of Alternate Channels: Queer Images on 20th Century TV, will explore the fight for lesbian and gay visibility on 20th-century American television, as gay activists faced off with powerful, often vicious "traditional values" crusaders, with TV executives caught in the crossfire. He will also show clips from “All in the Family,” “In Living Color,” “Soap,” Women of Brewster Place,” “Mike Douglas Show,” “Friends,” “Ellen,” “Buffy The Vampire Slayer,” “Dawson’s Creek,” “My So-Called Life” and more.
The virtual event will be held Thursday, May 21, from 2-3 p.m. To register, please go to bit.ly/UPLlive.
