This should hardly come as a surprise to anyone other than Jared Leto, but: don't expect television shows to resume production anytime soon, as the coronavirus pandemic continues to spread. That means many popular broadcast programs, including shows that were scheduled to shuffle off the air for good in May, will not have the opportunity to produce season or series finales.
That's the word from Vulture, which reported Monday that at least four unnamed shows had already told cast and crew they would not be called back to finish their seasons. Over the last week, dozens of major titles announced a production hiatuses, including top-rated shows like Grey's Anatomy, Law & Order: SVU, NCIS, Dick Wolf's Chicago franchise, and Supernatural. In the case of that fan-favorite drama, which airs on The CW, May was supposed to bring a long-anticipated series finale after 15 seasons. The episode hasn't yet been shot, but Supernatural producer Jim Michaels assured fans that the show would pick up where it left off once filming had become safe again.
These are just the shows that are already on the air, of course. Most pilots and series shooting new seasons of episodes have been stopped as well, which has forced schedule changes. FX was originally set to debut the fourth season of anthology series Fargo, this time starring Chris Rock, in April. But because production had to be halted before the final episodes had been produced, the entire launch is being delayed, according to Entertainment Weekly.
But not all series decided to pause with the end in sight. The Crown, to cite one high profile show, has pushed through to finish its fourth season this week before its cast and crew presumably head into a lockdown alongside the rest of the world.
