"The King and I,” 9 p.m., PBS. After four days of convention coverage, PBS can relax and rerun a classic musical revival. “King” is too long (two hours, 40 minutes) and too stiff, offering a fictional version of the real Englishwoman who, in the 1860s, taught the children of the King of Siam. But Kelli O’Hara is superb and this is stuffed with Rodgers-and-Hammerstein hits — “Getting to Know You,” “Hello, Young Lovers,” “Something Wonderful,” “I Whistle a Happy Tune” and “Shall We Dance?”
“MacGyver,” 8 p.m., CBS. For four weeks. “Greatest #AtHome Videos” borrowed this slot. It was a fun show and we suspect it will return; for now, we can watch a rerun in which Desi infiltrates as soccer team. She’s trying to learn which player is working with Codex on a match-fixing scheme.
“Magnum P.I.,” 9 p.m., CBS. After tonight’s rerun, this will give its Friday slot to “Love Island” for several weeks. So we might as well catch it while we can. Tonight, Magnum and Higgins are hired by the opposite sides in a divorce; each must dig up dirt on the other’s client.
“Savage Kingdom,” 9-11 p.m., National Geographic. In the mid-section of a three-week mini-series, we learn that life is never easy for the lionesses. One is trying to get a well-deserved meal, while the guys keep suggesting at sex instead of doing their job, protecting her from hyenas. More problems follow — a journey to new turf, a drought and the fire it causes, and the ordeal of being a pregnant predator with two cubs to feed. All of this (plus leopards) is beautifully filmed, albeit quite gory.
“Lucifer” new season, any time, Netflix. It’s not easy to juggle humor and crime solving — or to have the devil himself as a semi-hero. But this did it fairly well on Fox and now has a new season via streaming. Also arriving today are Netflix movies: “Hoops” is an animated comedy about a basketball coach; “The Sleepover” has kids trying to help their mom, a former thief who must do one more heist.
