The 2020 Indianapolis 500 will be run at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indianapolis, Indiana, on Sunday, August 23 (8/23/2020), but it will be unlike any other Indy 500 in the race’s history.
The race will be broadcast for the first time this year on NBC, which can be streamed live on fuboTV, Hulu with Live TV and Sling (availability varies by market).
The TV station isn’t the only new part of “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” this year. Like other sports restarting amid the coronavirus pandemic, there will be no fans packing the 300,000-capacity speedway this year.
The race will also be missing much of the usual Americana pomp and circumstance following postponement from its usual Memorial Day weekend schedule. No parade of military members, marching band or traditional last row party, but NBC is still planning to return many of the race’s other hallowed traditions.
“The elements that you would expect that are really important are back,” Indianapolis Motor Speedway president Doug Boles told The Associated Press. “Part of Memorial Day weekend is to celebrate the men and women who serve. We’re in August this year, but a flyover with the Thunderbirds is a fitting tribute to those men and women. And they have a little twist up their sleeve this year.”
