What’s on TV Sunday: ‘Killing Eve’ and ‘Run’ - The New York Times

KILLING EVE 9 p.m. on AMC and BBC America. The second season of this tantalizing thriller series ended with a bang. (Spoilers ahead.) Just when we thought the seductive yet lethal Villanelle (Jodie Comer) and the rogue MI6 agent Eve (Sandra Oh) were going to ride off into the sunset together, Villanelle shot Eve and left her for dead. At the outset of Season 3, which is debuting two weeks earlier than planned, we learn that Eve survived the shooting but is utterly broken. She takes a job at a Korean restaurant, seemingly wiping her hands clean of Eve, MI6 and The Twelve. Villanelle has a new love, but is clearly hung up on Eve. And in a change of pace, the show is peeling back the layers of her past, introducing us to her former Russian trainer (Harriet Walter) and revealing the traumas that left her coldhearted and alone. As for the rest of the characters, Kenny (Sean Delaney) has a new job, Carolyn (Fiona Shaw) feels sidelined at MI6 and Niko (Owen McDonnell) is on the mend.

THIS IS STAND-UP (2020) 10 p.m. on Comedy Central. Aspiring comics can learn a thing or two from the more than 100 comedians interviewed in this documentary, which takes a behind-the-scenes look at the world of comedy. Among the stars are Jamie Foxx, Tiffany Haddish and Jerry Seinfeld.

RUN 10:36 p.m. on HBO; stream on HBO platforms. As many of us remain isolated in our homes, this new black comedy can either be an exhilarating fantasy or a frustrating tease. Former college lovers Billy (Domhnall Gleeson) and Ruby (Merritt Wever) made a pact when they were 19: If one texts the other RUN, and the other responds the same, they will both drop everything, head to New York’s Grand Central Station and jump on a cross-country train together. And so it happens years later, when Billy, now a charming lifestyle guru, texts Ruby, a mother who’s waiting for life to jolt her out of her humdrum routine. Their first encounter sizzles with desire, but when reality hits, the show veers into thriller territory, revealing why Billy and Ruby desperately wanted to escape from their lives. “Run” comes from Vicky Jones, who directed the stage production of “Fleabag,” and Phoebe-Waller Bridge is an executive producer. The fourth season premiere of INSECURE leads in at 10 p.m.

BREWS BROTHERS Stream on Netflix. Fans of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” may want to give this zany comedy a try. The brothers Will (Alan Aisenberg) and Adam (Mike Castle) run a failing brewery in Los Angeles that, because of a series of bad decisions, customers have come to believe is a sex shop. The show pokes fun at the world of craft brewing, and the brothers are often swept up in shenanigans, many of which involve someone or something spoiling the business’s beer.
