Re “Stop Airing Trump’s Briefings!,” by Charles M. Blow (column, April 20):
How can we improve our national spirit and hasten our recovery from Covid-19? Honor Mr. Blow’s call for the TV news outlets to stop broadcasting President Trump’s daily briefings. They do much more harm than good.
Mr. Trump’s briefings aren’t really “news” anyway, they’re just third-rate reality TV, complete with tantrums, jealousy, infighting and too much makeup and hair spray, all at our expense.
This is a time of great national fear and anguish. How dare he behave so badly? Please, turn off the cameras.

Carry On, ‘Six Feet of Kindness’ at a Time
To the Editor:
Six feet of kindness.
A neighbor sews and donates masks in exchange for donations to a local nonprofit. Windows adorned with teddy bears and hearts and colorful sidewalk creations put smiles on faces during daily walks.
A single shopper, behind a family of six, checks out and tosses one of her “two per customer” packages of toilet paper to a grateful parent. Greeting cards are made by children and sent to those isolated in nursing homes. School bus drivers distribute food to those in need.
Teachers take on the challenge of creating and learning new ways to reach and teach their students. A bakery distributes cookies to essential workers. Those needing shelter from the weather, from addiction or from an abuser can still find refuge.
College and high school students, especially seniors, make the best of a different sort of end to their academic year. FaceTime calls and video chats are planned to help family and friends stay connected. Health care workers continue to lovingly care for those who find themselves suddenly in the hospital, alone.
Let’s go the distance of this virus, however long a journey it may be, six feet of kindness at a time.

Should Biden Pick Stacey Abrams as His Running Mate?
To the Editor:
In “It’s Obvious Whom Joe Biden Should Pick as Vice President” (Op-Ed, nytimes.com, April 14), Steve Phillips makes the argument that Joe Biden could best balance the ticket by choosing Stacey Abrams for vice president. But there’s more to choosing a V.P. than balancing the ticket.
During my lifetime, three vice presidents unexpectedly assumed the presidency. Harry Truman when President Franklin D. Roosevelt died in office. Lyndon Johnson when President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. Gerald Ford when President Nixon resigned.
Will Mr. Biden’s running mate have the chops to step in as the leader of the free world, should it ever be required? I dearly hope so.
I would encourage Mr. Biden and Democrats to select a running mate who both balances the ticket and can effectively step in to run the country. Senator Kamala Harris, among others, fills the bill. Ms. Abrams does not.
There’s much to admire about Ms. Abrams. At some point in the future she may well have the broad experience to be president. Just not yet.

To the Editor:
In addition to the positive qualities that Steve Phillips identifies in urging the choice of Stacey Abrams for vice president, I would include the following:
1) Inspirational oratorical skill. Listen to her and see if you agree.
2) Boots on the ground skill in combating voter suppression in the South. No, she did not prevail in her gubernatorial run in Georgia, but she has fought voter suppression in the South and knows tactics to defend against potential voter suppression efforts in other states.
3) Her strength and youthfulness, advantageous for a 77-year-old presidential candidate.
