A week after users were warned they could lose access to Fox Regional Sports Networks broadcasts, Sinclair Broadcast Group has said it’s reached an agreement with YouTube TV that will allow subscribers to continue watching Fox Sports Southwest coverage.
“We’re pleased to reach a new agreement with YouTube TV. Most YouTube TV subscribers will continue to see Stars, Mavericks, Spurs and Rangers games and all the comprehensive coverage on FOX Sports Southwest,” Fox Sports Southwest said in a tweet Thursday.
YouTube explained in a series of tweets last week that it has to negotiate carriage agreements with various networks in order to carry their content for YouTube TV subscribers. It cited difficulty reaching an agreement with Sinclair – which owns Fox Sports Southwest and 20 other regional sports networks – and “the rising cost of sports content.”
Sinclair Broadcast Group “has reached a deal with YouTube TV that ensures the streaming service will continue to carry 19 of its 21 Fox regional sports networks (RSNs), including Fox Sports Arizona, Fox Sports Florida, Fox Sports Midwest, Fox Sports North, Fox Sports Ohio, Fox Sports San Diego, Fox Sports South, Fox Sports Southwest, Fox Sports Southeast, Fox Sports Sun and SportsTime Ohio," Sinclair said in a statement.
Sinclair Broadcasting Group purchased 21 Fox Regional Sports Networks – including Fox Sports Southwest – from Disney in a $9.6 billion deal last August.
