What’s on TV
ONE DAY AT A TIME 9:30 p.m. on Pop TV. Fans of this sitcom — a remake of Norman Lear’s original — were up in arms last year when Netflix canceled the show after three seasons. Now, they can rejoice: The series has found a new home on Pop TV — and this premiere will also air on TV Land and Logo — meaning the Cuban-American Alvarez family will be around to cheer up viewers suffering from the coronavirus blues. The fourth season opens with a census taker (Ray Romano) dropping by the family’s Los Angeles home. The trailer suggests there will be plenty of talk about sex and relationships: When the son, Alex (Marcel Ruiz), says the family needs boundaries, the mother, Penelope (Justina Machado), answers with: “Boundaries are for white people. Next thing you know, we’re eating Lunchables in separate rooms and grandmama lives in a home!”
DARK SIDE OF THE RING 9 p.m. on Vice. This troubling documentary series revisits the heyday of professional wrestling, focusing on the grim realities behind the made-for-TV entertainment. This Season 2 premiere, told in two parts, looks at the case of Chris Benoit, the Canadian wrestler who killed his wife and son before committing suicide in 2007. Figures from World Wrestling Entertainment attempt to make sense of the tragedy. (The first half of the episode is on YouTube.) Other figures featured in upcoming episodes include Owen Hart, who suffered a fatal fall in 1999 before a World Wrestling Federation match, and New Jack, a wrestler who says he stabbed an opponent nine times in the ring.
COUNCIL OF DADS 10 p.m. on NBC. This new drama series, based on the memoir by Bruce Feiler, almost compels you to grab a box of tissues. After Scott (Tom Everett Scott), a father of five, learns he has cancer, he asks a few of his closest friends to step in as “backup dads” for his children if he were to die. If this tear-jerker is your cup of tea, tune into the fourth season finale of THIS IS US at 9 p.m.
PROJECT BLUE BOOK 10 p.m. on History. In the tense season finale of this historical drama series, the scientist J. Allen Hynek (Aidan Gillen) and the Air Force veteran Michael Quinn (Michael Malarkey) race against the clock to stop a rogue admiral from starting a third world war after unidentified flying objects and unidentified submersible objects wreak havoc on a naval exercise near Russian waters.
What’s Streaming
TOM SEGURA: BALL HOG (2020) Stream on Netflix. The low-key stand-up comedian Tom Segura, who co-hosts the “Your Mom’s House” podcast with his wife, the fellow comic Christina Pazsitzky, draws laughs from irreverent jokes and risqué humor. (This new special follows 2018’s “Disgraceful,” which some deemed offensive to people with disabilities.) Tread lightly: Here Segura delivers a divisive joke about drowning his dog if it were to harm his son.
