It seems like it was only just yesterday the 2022 blockbuster season kicked off with movies like TOP GUN: MAVERICK and MINIONS: THE RISE OF GRU, yet here we are, nearing summer’s end. But before we begin planning for all those highly-anticipated fall movie premieres, there are several upcoming releases that prove summer will go out with a bang.
Below is a breakdown of just a few of the new movies in August that will surely bring audiences out to AMC Theatres nationwide before the new school year starts up and closes the chapter on yet another great summer at the movies. With high-octane action comedies like BULLET TRAIN, vicious monster movies like BEAST, and mind-bending epics like THREE THOUSAND YEARS OF LONGING, there is plenty to look forward to on the big screen.

Bullet Train
Before Brad Pitt’s Ladybug can end his career as an assassin, he has to complete what initially appears to be a rather mundane job — board a high-speed train heading from Tokyo to Kyoto and collect a mysterious briefcase. Simple enough, right?
But in addition to Ladybug, an assortment of highly-skilled killers also want to complete the job and take the briefcase for themselves. David Leitch’s action comedy BULLET TRAIN will see Brad Pitt’s seasoned assassin face off against characters played by Joey King, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Brian Tyree Henry, Bad Bunny, and more when it opens August 5.

The latest A24 release, BODIES BODIES BODIES centers on a group of friends who decide the best way to weather an approaching hurricane is to have a house party at a remote mansion. Looking for ways to keep themselves entertained, they decide to play an in-the-dark murder-mystery game called “Bodies Bodies Bodies.” But when the lights come back on an actual dead body is found, things take a turn, so to speak.
Halina Reijn’s upcoming black comedy slasher features a cast that includes Amandla Stenberg, Maria Bakalova, Rachel Sennott, Chase Sui Wonders, and Pete Davidson, BODIES BODIES BODIES -- featured among AMC's Thrills and Chills picks -- could end up being another classic when it opens August 5.

Scott Mann’s white-knuckled thriller FALL looks like one of those movies you’ll want to see on the biggest screen possible, whether it be IMAX or AMC’s Dolby Theatre, when this one opens August 12.

Fitting for an end of the summer story, James Ponsoldt’s coming-of-age drama SUMMERING follows a group of four girls on the eve of the first day of eighth grade who try to find a way to prevent childhood’s end. In their attempt to prolong summer break, the quartet of friends find themselves embarking on a journey none will soon forget.
SUMMERING, which features Lia Barnett, Madalen Mills, Eden Grace Redfield, and Sanai Victoria, Megan Mullally, and Lake Bell, opens August 12.

In an attempt to come to terms with his wife’s death, Dr. Nate Samuels, played by Idris Elba, takes his daughters on what was supposed to be a trip of a lifetime to South Africa where they are to go on a safari. But when they become the target of a vicious man-eating lion, their journey transforms from one of coping to one of survival.
Directed by Baltasar Kormákur, BEAST — another AMC Thrills and Chills selection — looks to be the next great addition to a long line of survival thrillers featuring ferocious animals turning the hunters into the hunted when it opens on August 19.

Years after Goku brought an end to the fearsome Red Ribbon Army, the diabolical force is back at it with plans of revenge with a new set of fighters that could be the most destructive yet. But before they can put their plans into motion, they’ll have to get through Gohan and Piccolo first.
DRAGON BALL SUPER: SUPER HERO, the latest in a long line of movies and shows based on Akira Toriyama’s classic manga series, arrives in theatres on August 19.

Upon meeting a mysterious Djinn (Idris Elba), Dr. Alithea Binnie (Tilda Swinton), is given the opportunity to make three wishes. Despite initially being reluctant to go forward with the proposal, on account of her being one to listen to reason, Alithea throws caution into the wind and takes the figure up on his proposition.
George Miller’s THREE THOUSAND YEARS OF LONGING is set to take audiences on a fantastic journey starting August 31.
