The Cleveland Cavaliers will wrap up their 2021-22 regular season on Sunday afternoon versus the Milwaukee Bucks. The Cavaliers lost at the Brooklyn Nets on Friday, which seemed very unfortunate for their 7-8 play-in chances, frankly, but they’ll have the chance still to have two opportunities in the play-in tournament for the Eastern Conference.
If Cleveland defeats Milwaukee on Sunday afternoon, they’ll be in the 7-8 game, likely at Brooklyn again. That wouldn’t have appeared to be an easy task, though, as the Bucks have been getting healthier and they’re hitting their stride, and they look primed to potentially repeat as NBA champs.
The Cavs are have taken two of three games versus Milwaukee this season, but one of those meetings was against a COVID-19-riddled Bucks team. The latest meeting was a big-time win in Cleveland, still, and the Cavs will be looking for that type of effort again on Sunday.
The Cavs will try to secure a place in the 7-8 game with a win over the Bucks on Sunday. So what do you need to know before this one, and how to bet?
The Cavaliers have had some solid outings overall against some quality teams of late, but injuries aside, they’ve still not been able to string together good four-quarter efforts nearly enough in recent weeks. Cleveland has lost five of its last six games.
The Cavs did work their right back into things on Friday at the Nets, they just seemingly ran out gas in that down the stretch. They’ll look to rebound here.
In relation to the Bucks, they’ve gotten Brook Lopez back recently, and he’s been a difference-maker as a rim protector once again, and his offense has been meaningful as always, too.
Milwaukee, as we know, has gotten great play from its big guns, such as Jrue Holiday and Giannis Antetokounmpo as well, and Antetokounmpo has seemingly hit another gear of late, making a late-season MVP push. That’s been some of the reason for the Bucks winning five of their last seven, and as a result, they’ve climbed to the #2 seed in the East.
In this matchup, the Bucks could be the Cavaliers a solid, though, so-to-speak, even if they eventually were to drop to the #3 seed. But, hey, I’d take the Bucks resting guys.

Cavaliers-Bucks: Prediction
Simply put, the Bucks could seemingly be without Giannis, Middleton, Lopez and Portis, and while it’s not certain yet, I’d expect that the Cavs should be in good shape here.
The Cavaliers still have to go out and take this one, and their recent play, such as in a brutal L to the Orlando Magic on Tuesday, doesn’t suggest that they’ll necessarily run away with this. I’m not saying that they definitely will, either, as we’ll still have to see what happens, and the Bucks are still a deep club with solid wing depth.
With it still seemingly unlikely Giannis, Lopez and Middleton are playing here, the Cavaliers should be able to generate enough ball-swings and a few key runs could get the job done. I’d imagine Mobley has another strong game here as well, and Lauri Markkanen, no matter who is in there, could very well knock down his share of threes off the catch here.
Anyhow, with the Bucks likely resting their share of crucial guys here, and Grayson Allen not being involved either, I do think Cleveland finds a way to get a W, and it’s difficult to say how much we’ll see Holiday involved. Jordan Nwora could be the de facto top shot creator for stretches.
I’ll say the Cavs win and can cover here, but I’ll go with the under overall.
Prediction: Cavs 114, Bucks 101
The Bet: Cavs (-7.5), UNDER

Cavs upcoming play-in schedule:
After this regular season finale versus the Bucks, if the Cavs win, they’d play in the 7-8 play-in game on Tuesday seemingly likely against the Nets again in Brooklyn, assuming the Nets beat the Indiana Pacers on Sunday. In that scenario, if the Cavaliers won in that 7-8 game, they’d have the 7 seed in the East.
Conversely, if the Cavaliers lose to the Bucks, they’d then play in the 9-10 play-in game on Wednesday versus the Charlotte Hornets, which would be at Charlotte if the Hornets beat the Washington Wizards. If Charlotte loses to Washington, that 9-10 game, if Cleveland loses to Milwaukee, would be in Cleveland.
If the Cavaliers from there, in that sense, beat the Hornets in the 9-10 game, they then would play the loser of the other 7-8 game for the 8 seed in the East on the road.
