Bayonne to air Holocaust Remembrance program on BEN-TV and BAY-TV - The Hudson Reporter

maleomales.blogspot.com

Bayonne’s annual Holocaust Remembrance program will air on Wednesday, April 27, at 7 p.m., on the Bayonne Educational Network (BEN-TV), which is on Channel 77 on Optimum and Channel 40 on Verizon Fios in Bayonne.

The program will also air at the same date and time on the Bayonne Local Government Access Channel (BAY-TV), which is on Channel 78 on Optimum and Channel 42 on Verizon Fios in Bayonne.

Normally, the remembrance service takes place in front of a live audience at City Hall. However, the usual service has not taken place in City Hall in the past few years, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

By a special arrangement with the Board of Education, the program was taped in separate segments over several days at Bayonne High School. Following that it was edited together for a showing on April 27.

The program will repeat on BEN-TV at 7 p.m. and other times through May 11. On BAY-TV, the program will repeat multiple times in late April and throughout May. According to the city, emergent events could pre-empt the program’s showing at particular times on either channel.

Bayonne remembers the Holocaust

The program includes remarks and reflections by elected officials and members of the clergy, a memorial candle-lighting, and a special guest presentation by Maud Dahme, a native of The Netherlands. Dahme and her sister survived the Holocaust, because they were taken in by Christian families that hid their Jewish identities from the Nazi authorities.

Dahme’s parents survived their captivity in a concentration camp, and the family emigrated from The Netherlands to New Jersey in 1950. Dahme has since become a leading advocate of Holocaust education.

The annual Holocaust Remembrance program is sponsored by the UJA Federation of Bayonne, the City of Bayonne, and the Bayonne Interfaith Clergy. The groups expect to return the program to City Hall next year in front of a live audience.

The committee for the event wishes to thank the Board of Education for making this program possible, and expresses special gratitude to Superintendent of Schools John Niesz, Director of Fine and Performing Arts Tim Craig, and BEN-TV Manager Pete Hastings. Mayor James Davis serves as Honorary Chairman of the program.
