Apparently, everything is not OK. Freeform will not renew the series "Everything's Gonna Be Okay" starring Kayla Cromer, who has autism. (Ser Baffo/Freeform)

A first-of-its-kind television show starring an actress with autism has come to an end.

The cable network Freeform has canceled “Everything’s Gonna Be Okay” after two seasons.

The half-hour comedy was groundbreaking for putting Kayla Cromer, an actress who is on the spectrum, front and center.

Josh Thomas, who created and starred in the show, made the announcement on Twitter this week.

“This show has been such a special experience — I got to learn so much about the world and myself while making it,” wrote Thomas who disclosed earlier this year that he was diagnosed with autism while working on the series.

On the show, Thomas played Nicholas who finds himself caring for his two teenage half-sisters after the death of their father. Cromer appeared as one of the sisters, Matilda, who has autism.

Since taking on the role, Cromer has been open about her diagnosis and has said it’s important to see people with disabilities cast in television shows.

The final episode of season two of “Everything’s Gonna Be Okay” aired on Freeform in June. The series is available on Hulu.
