The 2021 WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational marks the end of a long regular season for most of the best in the world who will tee it up at TPC Southwind this week. After a summer full of big-time tournaments, that regular season will draw to a close next week at the Wyndham Championship, which the majority of top players will skip to prep for the FedEx Cup Playoffs.
This is also the second consecutive limited-field, no-cut tournament following last week's 2020 Tokyo Olympics competition. While that field featured some of the best players in the world, this one features nearly all of them with Jon Rahm the lone top-25 player in the world not in attendance.
When the biggest stars in the sport show up, there's always plenty of storylines. Dustin Johnson is trying to snag his first PGA Tour win of 2021 on a course he's dominated in the past. Rory McIlroy is trying to maintain the momentum he built up in Tokyo last week. Xander Schauffele is returning to the Tour a gold medal winner. Collin Morikawa is returning to the Tour a two-time major champion. Jordan Spieth has quietly been one of the best players in the world this summer, even without a win.
