CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) — The Mid-American Conference announced game times and television selections for eight Eastern Michigan University football games during the 2021 season. Included among those games are home contests against Miami, Ohio, Saint Francis, and Western Michigan, along with away games at Central Michigan, Northern Illinois, Toledo, and Wisconsin. All remaining game kick times and television appearances will be announced 12 days prior to the scheduled games.
The 2021 campaign features six home games at Rynearson Stadium for only the 16th time, as well as four home games by mid-October.
EMU will feature a year-long series of events, initiatives, and programming centered around fans, student-athletes, and the community as the University welcomes fans back to campus. Each of the team's six home games will have a unique theme that will be announced in the coming weeks.
Since the start of the 2008 campaign, Eastern Michigan has been a part of 120 televised games. A total of 83 of those small-screen appearances have occurred on the ESPN-family of networks (44 ESPN3, 13 ESPN+, 9 ESPNU, 5 ESPN Regional, 4 SEC Network, 3 ESPN, 2 ESPN2, 1 ESPNews, 1 ESPN Classic, and 1 ABC). Eastern has also been a part of 14 nationally televised games on CBS Sports Network.
Eastern kicks off the year Friday, Sept. 3, at 7 p.m. on the gray turf of "The Factory" against Saint Francis (Pa.). ESPN3 will showcase the Labor Day weekend affair, as the Red Flash play its first ever contest against a Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) opponent. It will also be the first college football game in the state of Michigan for any of the state's five FBS squads.
From there, the Eagles trek to Madison, Wis. to battle Wisconsin, Sept. 11. The 7 p.m. ET matchup against the Badgers will mark EMU's first appearance on FS1. For channel availability, visit FoxSports.com or contact your local television provider. In the Ypsilanti area, the game will be shown on Xfinity channel 223, DirectTV channel 219, or DISH Network 150.
The Green and White are looking for their fourth consecutive victory over a Big 10 Conference opponent after previously defeating Rutgers (2017), Purdue (2018), and Illinois (2019).
Eastern remains on the road with a trip to Amherst, Mass. to take on former MAC foe, Massachusetts, Sept. 18. The non-conference schedule concludes Saturday, Sept. 25, with a home date against Texas State.
Eastern Michigan opens its 46th MAC season on the road at Northern Illinois Saturday, Oct. 2. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. ET at Huskie Stadium in DeKalb, Ill. The Eagles, who have defeated the Huskies in back-to-back seasons, will be looking for their first three-game winning streak in the series since taking seven straight between 1952-58.
Miami will be EMU's guest for the University's official 100th Annual Homecoming celebration Saturday, Oct. 9. After a virtual celebration in 2020, the most spirited week on campus returns in a tradition that began in 1920. Homecoming is packed with free and low-cost events for students and alumni to enjoy. The week culminates with the 3:30 p.m. game inside Rynearson Stadium.
A week later, the Green and White host the defending MAC Champion Cardinals of Ball State, Oct. 16. EMU dropped a tight 38-31 contest in the waning moments during the 2020 season in Muncie, Ind.
Eastern then crosses the border for consecutive weeks with games at Bowling Green Saturday, Oct. 23, and at Toledo Tuesday, Nov. 2. The game against the Rockets will kick off a three-week phenomenon known as "MACtion" with the midweek showdowns.
The Toledo contest will kick at either 7 or 7:30 p.m. and be aired on either ESPN2, ESPNU, or CBS Sports Network.
Ypsilanti will be featured prominently on national television with Tuesday night affairs against Ohio, Nov. 9, and Western Michigan, Nov. 16. It marks just the second occurrence in program history that EMU will be featured in back-to-back home #MACtion games.
The Nov. 9 game will be played at either 7 or 8 p.m. and shown nationwide on ESPN2, ESPNU, or CBS Sports Network. Meanwhile, the rivalry game against WMU could be aired on ESPN2, ESPNU, or ESPN+ at 7:30 or 8 p.m.
Eighth-year Head Coach Chris Creighton and company wrap up the regular season on "Black Friday" at Central Michigan, Nov. 26. The noon game will be featured by either ESPNU or CBSSN.
The 25th Rocket Mortgage MAC Football Championship game will again take place in downtown Detroit on Saturday, Dec. 4, at 12 p.m. This will mark the 18th Rocket Mortgage MAC Football Championship game at Ford Field, home of the Detroit Lions, Super Bowl XL, and the 2009 NCAA Men's Final Four.
