NBC will be at the Preakness Stakes on Saturday, but fans won’t. Neither will the Belmont Stakes winner.
The same reason explains the spectator ban and the race’s late date. Usually run on the third Saturday in May, the Preakness got rescheduled for Oct. 3 because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Tiz the Law’s absence doesn’t have anything to do with the COVID-19 crisis. After winning the Belmont Stakes on June 20, the colt couldn’t keep pace with Authentic at the Kentucky Derby on Sept. 5 and is looking ahead to the Breeders' Cup Classic next month.
If Authentic can’t turn back 10 other 3-year-olds on Saturday, the Triple Crown races will have three different winners for the fourth time in five years. The exception came in 2018, when Justify won the Triple Crown.

The 145th Preakness Stakes has a post time of 4:45 p.m. CDT Saturday at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore.
NBC’s televised coverage from Old Hilltop will start at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
NBC affiliates in Alabama include WVTM-TV 13 in Birmingham, WRGX-LD 23 in Dothan, WAFF-TV 48 in Huntsville, WPMI-TV 15 in Mobile and WSFA-TV 12 in Montgomery.
