If there’s one thing we’ve learned in the past six months it’s that college football scheduling during a pandemic is an inexact science and as uncertain as the weather on a southern summer day.
The UAB football program managed to put together an 11-game schedule in the two weeks leading up to the start of the season and now has a full TV slate with the final broadcast information announced this week.
Reduced to eight games by mid-August, UAB was able to substitute its original season opener against New Mexico State with a more formidable FCS program in Central Arkansas and added Louisiana to its original open date in late October. Additionally, the Miami game was rescheduled a week early to Thursday, Sept. 10.
Since the addition of Central Arkansas and Louisiana to the 2020 slate, the broadcast schedule has clarified the situation further.
Central Arkansas replaces the original slot vacated by New Mexico State while South Alabama, originally scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 26, at Hancock Whitney Stadium in Mobile, has been pushed back two days to Thursday, Sept. 24, with kickoff set for 6:30 p.m. on ESPN.
Louisiana has taken the place of UAB’s original open date and is now scheduled for Friday, Oct. 23, at Legion Field, with kickoff set for 7 p.m. on CBS Sports Network.
The season finale against rival Southern Miss -- possibly the final UAB game at Legion Field -- was also moved up a day with kickoff now set for Friday, Nov. 27, at 2:30 p.m. on CBS Sports Network.
The marquee matchup with Miami at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, originally scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 17, was moved a week early to Sept. 10 with kickoff now set for 6:30 p.m. on the ACC Network.
While UAB fans are familiar with the current Conference USA television deal that includes Stadium and CBS Sports Network, the Miami game poses a challenge for those without a cable subscription that includes a premium sports package. Fortunately, the ACC Network is available with an active subscription to Hulu + Live TV, YouTubeTV, Sling TV or PlayStation Vue.
The Blazers open the 2020 schedule Thursday against Central Arkansas, with kickoff set for 7 p.m. on ESPN3.
