Kentucky Derby 2020: TV coverage for Saturday’s race - AL.com

maleomales.blogspot.com

In an oddity due to the coronavirus pandemic, Saturday’s Kentucky Derby will determine if Tiz the Law has an opportunity to become U.S. thoroughbred racing’s 14th Triple Crown winner at the Preakness States in four weeks.

NBC will televise the Kentucky Derby, with the network’s coverage starting at 1:30 p.m. CDT Saturday.

NBC affiliates in Alabama include WVTM-TV 13 in Birmingham, WRGX-LD 23 in Dothan, WAFF-TV 48 in Huntsville, WPMI-TV 15 in Mobile and WSFA-TV 12 in Montgomery.

The original schedule of the 2020 Triple Crown races had the Kentucky Derby on May 2, Preakness Stakes on May 16 and Belmont Stakes on June 6.

Instead, the pandemic scrambled the schedule so that Tiz the Law ran to victory in the Belmont Stakes on June 20, and after Saturday’s Kentucky Derby, the Preakness Stakes awaits a field of 3-year-olds on Oct. 3.

CAN TIZ THE LAW BE BEATEN IN SATURDAY’S KENTUCKY DERBY?

Saturday’s race will be the first Kentucky Derby not run in May since 1945 and the first time the Run for the Roses didn’t open the Triple Crown trail since 1931.

The 146th Kentucky Derby has a post time of 6:01 p.m. Saturday at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky.

The Kentucky Derby is the last of the seven graded-stakes races on the schedule for Churchill Downs on Saturday, and the NBC coverage will allow viewers to see the other six. The other Grade 1 races are the Old Forester Bourbon Turf Classic and the Derby City Distaff, the Grade 2 races are the American Turf, Longines Churchill Distaff Turf Mile and Pat Day Mile and the Grade 3 race is the Iroquois.

The field for the Kentucky Derby, including post position and morning-line odds, is:

2. Max Player 30-1

3. Enforceable 30-1

4. Storm the Court 50-1

5. Major Fed 50-1
