On Thursday, YouTube TV announced that it would no longer carry the FOX Regional Sports Networks after Feb. 29. The service could not agree to terms with Sinclair Broadcast Group, which owns the networks along with the YES Network.
Detroit sports fans will have to find other options for catching the Detroit Pistons, Detroit Red Wings and the Detroit Tigers if they subscribe to YouTube TV.
FOX Sports Detroit exclusively airs most regular-season matchups for the Pistons, Red Wings and the Tigers.
“We do not take this decision lightly," the company tweeted. “This is a reflection of the rising cost of sports content. You may have noticed several other TV services have also decided to remove FOX Regional Sports Networks from their lineups.”
YouTube TV is the latest cable alternative that has dropped FOX Regional Sports Networks due to failed negotiations with Sinclair Broadcast Group. Both Sling and fuboTV no longer provide the channels. Sling let go of the channels last summer and fuboTV did the same in January.
The Walt Disney Corporation originally acquired the package of sports networks in 2017 when it bought 21st Century Fox. But the Justice Department forced Disney to divest its interest in the sports network because of its ownership of ESPN.
Sinclair Broadcast Group purchased the networks from the Walt Disney Corporation last August still have an agreement with Hulu, as well as AT&T TV Now.
