The Liga MX Clausura rolls on Saturday with a high-profile matchup between reigning champions Monterrey and second place Club America. While both teams are known for competing for trophies, one club has begun the new season in awful form, while the other looks primed for yet another championship run.

The 2019 Apertura champions, Monterrey, is off to an abysmal start in 2020. In six games to start the season, the team is winless and is dead last in the standings with just three points to its name. Frustrations came to a head in its most recent league match against Juarez when Monterrey had a lead taken away by VAR. Manager Antonio Mohamed got a red card after the match by showing his displeasure. To make matters worse, the team has lost El Tri star Rodolfo Pizarro to MLS’s new Miami franchise in the transfer market. The free-falling champs desperately need a good result in this big match. 

Things are going much better for the all-time leader in Liga MX titles. The 13-time winners Club America have only suffered one defeat so far this season. They sit just one point behind Pumas UNAM for the top spot in the league. One potential disadvantage America carries into this important match is the fact that it’s just begun its CONCACAF Champions League campaign. A tough 1-1 result away from home against Comunicaciones could have the squad in need of rest over the weekend. There could be some lineup decisions to be made.
