In today's world, not everyone is treated equally by the law as many innocents are framed for crimes they didn't commit while many criminals are roaming free, evading the sentences they should be serving for all the atrocities they perpetrate without remorse. And sometimes, we see some individuals who take the law into their own hands and pass judgment on those worthy of being punished, mainly to send a message to the rest of the world.

The Killing Vote, an upcoming SBS Korean drama, addresses precisely that with an intriguing story of a man who refers to himself as "Dog Mask." In the fictional world of Korea, the law can be twisted by the rich to achieve their ambitions, and heinous criminals can roam free by pulling a few strings on government personnel.

However, when a similar incident happens in the open one day, every citizen of Korea above 18 receives a text from an unknown person asking them to vote on whether the culprit deserves the death penalty. Once more than 50% of the voters respond in favor, Dog Mask kills the convict who evaded prison time.

As the situation worsens, a team of investigators: Kim Moo Chan (Park Hae Jin), Kwon Seok Joo (Park Sung Woong), and Joo Hyun (Im Ji Yeon), take on the case to bring the man with Dog Mask to justice before he kills any more criminals.

August appears to be an excellent month for novel adaptations, with not one but two popular novels being adapted to the screen. Harlan Coben is an established author frequently praised for his incredible talent for creating mind-blowing thrillers, and his stories are often filled with plot twists from beginning to end.

Shelter, published in 2011, is one of the author's acclaimed novels, which was highly praised by Otago Daily Times as "mystery, suspense, and thrills enough; you will enjoy reading it to find out more. And it not too grisly." The television adaptation for the series was announced in April 2021 by Amazon Studios, with Ed Decter serving as the showrunner. With promising young actors such as Jaden Michael, Constance Zimmer, and Abby Corrigan leading the series, it promises to offer a new look at its source material.

In the series, a teenage boy named Mickey Bolitar is having a difficult time in his life due to his mother getting checked into rehab for drug addiction, but when his girlfriend stops showing up to school and has seemingly vanished, his fears only get more tragic over time.

He investigates the disappearance of his girlfriend while living under the roof of his uncle, Myron, but when he learns that his father, whom he saw die in a car crash a year ago, is alive through the words of his neighbor who lives in an eerie mansion, his life becomes far too complicated all of a sudden. Will Mickey be able to deal with looming predicaments that could ruin his life if he isn't careful?
