On Sunday, the AL Central champion Chicago White Sox host the AL West champion Houston Astros for Game 3 of the American League Division Series. Garcia, the 24-year-old right-hander, in 2021 pitched to a 3.30 ERA/130 ERA+ and a 3.34 K/BB ratio in 155 1/3 innings. Across the way, the White Sox will send Cease to the hill, and the righty will need to fare better than Lance Lynn and Lucas Giolito, Chicago's Game 1 and Game 2 starters, respectively. They've combined for just eight innings pitched. In addition to taxing the bullpen, they also allowed nine runs in those eight innings.
In the history of best-of-five postseason series, 10 teams have come back from down 0-2 to win a series. The odds are solidly against the White Sox, but there's precedent for what they're hoping to achieve. The last team to pull if off was the Yankees in their 2017 ALDS against Cleveland.
Counting the Game 2 win, the Astros are now 7-2 against the White Sox this season.
