Summer rolls on, and with it come more reasons than ever to stay inside and out of the heat. Netflix has unveiled its new titles for the month of August, including splashy TV releases and long-awaited movies. The month starts off strong with the complete series of both 30 Rock and Friday Night Lights arriving on the platform. That also means an influx of Tim Riggins appreciation posts and Twitter discourse about Tina Fey is on the way.
The rest of August contains a bit of something for everyone. On the reality/docuseries front, Paris Hilton brings her culinary stylings to Netflix via Cooking With Paris (August 4), and Marie Kondo comes for your clutter in her new series, Sparking Joy (August 31). There’s even a new Caitlyn Jenner documentary, likely timed to her controversial gubernatorial run in California. Gen Z can look forward to the third and final Kissing Booth movie (August 11) and the film debut of TikTok star Addison Rae in the She’s All That re-imagining, creatively titled He’s All That (August 27).
Ahead, a list of all the major releases landing on Netflix in August, starting with a few highlights.
Netflix is betting that there still ain’t no party like a Liz Lemon party. All 138 episodes of the hit NBC sitcom are hitting the streaming platform, joining the ranks of Peacock and Hulu. Consider this an opportunity to re-fall in love with Jane Krakowski’s Jenna and reevaluate your favorite Tracey Morgan improv moments. Let it also be a reminder of what a workplace comedy can be at its best and most unpredictable.
Executive produced by Ryan Murphy and Jason Blum, Pray Away is a documentary earning early Oscars buzz after premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival. It features former advocates of the anti-LGBTQ movement and centers on Exodus International, a Christian conversion camp founded in the 1970s. Many of those who once preached the “pray away” method have since repudiated the practice of conversion therapy and come out as gay themselves. The doc explores their reckoning with the past and fight to ban all conversion therapy.
Where Sandra Oh leads, we will follow. After memorable performances on Grey’s Anatomy and Killing Eve, Oh stars as Dr. Ji-Yoon Kim—who has just been named Chair of the English department at the prestigious (if floundering) Pembroke University. She’s joined in her ill-fated endeavor to revive the department by Jay Duplass, Holland Taylor, and David Morse. Created by Amanda Peet and produced by Game of Thrones creators David Benioff (Peet’s husband) and D.B. Weiss, consider this your next must-watch prestige drama.
While she may have lost her gig as UFC host, TikTok influencer Addison Rae is still set to make her big screen debut with the gender-swapped remake of 1999’s She’s All That. She’s joined by the OG teen comedy’s star Rachael Leigh Cook as the mother of her character. (It’s unclear if Cook is reprising her role as the bespectacled wallflower Laney.) If that’s not enough to inspire a guilty-pleasure viewing, perhaps Kourtney Kardashian’s confirmed cameo will.
