Top Amazon Prime Day Fire TV Edition smart TV deals

Amazon's Fire TV interface comes built right into a number of smart TVs from Toshiba and Insignia, and these displays are now up to $110 off during Prime Day 2021. Both brands have 4K, 1080p, and 720p models in a range of screen sizes.

Though we don't generally recommend 720p HDTV models, the benefits of 4K are harder to see on screen sizes under 43 inches. If you're in the market for a smaller TV, an inexpensive HD display could offer decent value, especially when they're on sale. If you're going bigger than 32-inches, however, it's worth paying a bit more for a 4K model.

Fire TV streaming is also built into a number of soundbars, including the Nebula Soundbar Fire TV Edition and the TCL Alto 8+. The Nebula Soundbar is now $144, its lowest price ever, during Prime Day.

In addition to audio playback, these Fire TV soundbars include 4K video streaming so you can hook one up to your 4K smart TV to watch popular services through the Fire TV interface. Navigation is usually a bit slower on soundbars like this compared to dedicated streaming players, but the all-in-one convenience is a nice feature.

How to shop for a Fire TV

The term Fire TV covers a range of media devices from Amazon, including streaming sticks/cubes and smart TVs. Here's a rundown of major Fire TV products:

  • Fire TV streaming devices: These include the Fire TV Stick, Fire TV Stick Lite, Fire TV Stick 4K, and the Fire TV Cube. These products connect to your existing TV and add access to popular streaming services through the Fire TV interface. Most models also include an Alexa remote for voice control.
  • Fire TV Edition smart TVs: Amazon's Fire TV Edition displays are physical televisions that already have the Fire TV experience built-in. Brands like Insignia and Toshiba make Fire TV Edition smart TVs in several screen sizes with options for HD and 4K screens.
  • Fire TV Edition soundbars: Select soundbar models from brands like TCL now include built-in Fire TV streaming. This means that in addition to acting as a speaker, the soundbar also lets you stream video apps on your TV using the Fire TV OS.

Fire TV devices are known for reliable streaming performance and handy voice search capabilities thanks to Alexa, but the streaming stick models can be slower than set-top boxes from brands like Roku.

If you have a 4K TV or think you might upgrade to one down the line, we think the Fire TV Stick 4K is worth the extra money for its higher resolution playback. It's also one of the best streaming sticks on the market when it comes to HDR capabilities, with support for HDR10, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision.

Meanwhile, if you don't already own an Alexa-enabled smart speaker, the Fire TV Cube is a versatile option since it includes hands-free Alexa support, just like an Echo Dot, in addition to powerful 4K media streaming.
