The Raiders aren’t Oakland’s team anymore.

Saturday’s home game against the Dolphins (5:15 p.m.) won’t take place in the Bay Area — of course — and it apparently won’t air on local television here, either.

Bay Area Raiders fans will need to have NFL Network in their television package if they want to watch their team play the day after Christmas.

We reached out to each of the Bay Area’s English-language over-the-air stations — KRON 4, ABC 7, NBC Bay Area and KTVU confirmed that they were not airing the game. KPIX did not reply with confirmation either way, but listings on multiple platforms (KPIX website, TV Guide, Comcast channel guide) show mostly half-hour local news shows during the game’s television window from 5-8:30 p.m.

Normally, stations in local markets bid on the rights to simulcast NFL games that are airing nationally on cable channels, according to a programming manager at one station, but it’s not clear if that was an option for the Bay Area’s stations for this game.

When asked if any Bay Area station would air the game, the Raiders only provided information for local television stations in Las Vegas and Miami, the home markets of the two teams involved.

The last time a Raiders home game wasn’t available to Bay Area viewers on network television was in Dec. 2, 2012 vs. Cleveland, when the game was blacked out.

Raiders fans in the Bay Area grew accustomed to not seeing their team after the 1995 return. More than half of their home games from 1995-2012 were blacked out in the Bay Area because they didn’t sell enough tickets at the Oakland Coliseum. In 2012, the team put tarps over the “Mount Davis” addition, decreasing the stadium’s listed capacity and allowing for more sellouts. Then in 2015, the NFL suspended its blackout rules, allowing Bay Area fans to watch the Raiders on local broadcast TV until the team left for Las Vegas this year. Local stations have shown the Raiders when possible in 2020, but for Saturday’s game, there appears to be no option for them.

The Raiders’ Week 2 Monday Night Football home game against the Saints this year aired on ABC 7, likely allowed because Disney owns both ESPN (where the game aired nationally) and ABC, as well as the local station itself. NFL Network does not offer such a connection to allow for local TV outside the teams’ home markets.

Fans who want to watch the game can do so via streaming on one of several services. YouTube TV carries NFL Network and offers a free seven-day trial, as does fuboTV.
