A new contactless drive-in movie experience is coming to Tampa.
Rooftop Cinema Club will offer socially-distant distant movie screenings at Armature Works. The outdoor screenings start on Oct. 15 with a showing of Grease.
Rooftop Cinema Club has opened drive-in movie venues in the UK, Los Angeles, New York City, San Diego and Houston. “The Drive-In at Armature Works” will be the chain’s first location in Florida.
The drive-in’s October film lineup features a mix of modern and classic movies, from family-friendly Halloween favorites, like Hocus Pocus and The Addams Family, to films shot around Tampa Bay, like Cocoon and Edward Scissorhands.
Rooftop Cinema Club has implemented a number of safety precautions to ensure a contactless moviegoing experience. All ticket and concession purchases are made online. Parking ushers are trained to space out cars up to 10 feet apart. Once parked, guests can watch the film from inside their vehicle, but aren’t allowed to spread out beyond their 10-foot by 15-foot parking space. Masks are required when leaving vehicles to pick up snacks or use the restroom.
“The return of this great American institution continues to grow in popularity as we’ve seen around the country, which aren’t weeklong pop-ups, they are here to stay as long as people need this as a safe escape during this uncertain time,” said Gerry Cottle, owner and founder of Rooftop Cinema Club, in a release. “We can’t wait to share our passion for great film and memorable viewing experiences with Tampa Bay.”
