Walmart is now dabbling with the film industry.
The retail giant announced Wednesday it’s launching drive-in movie theaters in parking lots at 160 stores from Aug. 14. through Oct. 21, free to customers who register for a spot ahead of time.
Only one Walmart in New Jersey is participating as of now: The new Linden store in the Legacy Square shopping center at 1050 W. Edgar Rd. The following movies are being shown during the debut weekend:
--Aug. 14: “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial” at 7:30 p.m.
--Aug. 15: “Wonder Woman” at 7:30 p.m.
Both movies appear to be sold out, but registration may reopen, Walmart’s website says. Gates open 90 minutes before showtime, and late entry is not permitted.
In partnership with the Tribeca Film Festival, Walmart will show popular hits like “Ghostbusters” and “The Wizard of Oz.”
There are currently about 70 Walmart stores in New Jersey.
