The division-rival Washington Nationals and Mid-Atlantic Sports Network have hired Phillies radio broadcaster Kevin Frandsen to serve as MASN’s color commentator for Nationals television broadcasts. He’ll call games alongside longtime play-by-play man Bob Carpenter.
“Thrilled is an understatement to describe the way I feel right now,” Frandsen said in a press release. “I’d like to thank MASN and the Lerner family for this tremendous opportunity. I’d also like to thank my team of Amanda, Tenley and Daylen for their love and support. Being able to learn from and work alongside Scott Franzke, Larry Andersen, Rob Brooks and everyone in Philadelphia the last four seasons has been a blessing, but I’m so excited to work with Bob Carpenter and bring games to the incredibly knowledgeable and passionate Nationals fan base. I cannot wait to get started.”
Frandsen, who previously played for both the Phillies and Nationals, was hired by the Phillies in 2018 to work select road games on the radio broadcast with Franzke. Since then, his role has expanded and now, he’s taking his talents to D.C. and moving to television. Frandsen began his career in media as a sports talk radio host in San Francisco. He also serves as a host on MLB Network Radio.
It will be interesting to see how the Phillies replace Frandsen on the radio broadcasts. When the Phillies initially looked for a new color commentator when Andersen’s schedule was reduced, the team auditioned Frandsen, Kevin Stocker, J.C. Romero, Kevin Jordan, Doug Glanville and Ben Davis.
We’re all big fans of Frandsen here at Phillies Nation and wish him the best in the next chapter of his career.
