It's time for the first grand slam of the year.
The Australian Open begins Monday, kicking off the two-week tournament in Melbourne. Last year's winners, Novak Djokovic and Naomi Osaka, are both expected to loom large in this year's edition as well.
Elsewhere in the women's tournament, Serena Williams continues her quest for a record-tying 24th major title among a crowded field. Bianca Andreescu, who beat Williams at the 2019 U.S. Open, is not playing Australia due to a knee injury, but there are plenty of other potentially tough matches looming.
Also in the men's draw, as usual, are Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. Among the rest, Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas will be the favorites to end the Big 3's 12-slam streak.

Australian Open 2020 schedule
In Australia, the 2020 Australian Open begins Monday, Jan. 20, and has matches every day over the following two weeks, finishing Sunday, Feb. 2. The men's and women's tournaments will split for the semifinals Jan. 30 and 31, with the women's singles final happening Feb. 1 and the men's Feb. 2.
Due to the time difference, the first matches of the tournament will take place while it is still Sunday, Jan. 19, in the U.S.
