The Fox show opens below its fall average, while a 'South Park' special tops cable among adults 18-49 on Wednesday.

The Masked Singer scored the top adults 18-49 rating in primetime Wednesday, but the Fox show's fifth-season premiere came in below its fall run. NBC's Chicago Med finished first in total viewers, and a South Park special led cable in the 18-49 demographic.

The Masked Singer earned a 1.31 rating among adults 18-49 and 5.66 million viewers, below its fall same-day averages of 1.78 and 6.74 million. The series debut of Game of Talents (0.73 in 18-49, 3.1 million viewers) put up ratings comparable to those of The Masked Dancer.

Chicago Med rose a tenth of a point in the 18-49 demo versus its previous episode, posting a 1.03 to go along with 7.57 million viewers, tops for the night. Chicago Fire (0.99, 7.04 million) and Chicago PD (0.84, 5.89 million) were both in line with their prior outings.

CBS' lineup declined a little across the board, as Tough as Nails (0.38 demo, 2.84 million viewers), SEAL Team (0.42, 3.46 million) and SWAT (0.37, 2.84 million) all came up short of last week's numbers. At The CW, Riverdale scored a 0.14 and 523,000 viewers, which Nancy Drew (0.13, 522,000) nearly matched. ABC's comedies took the night off.

On cable, an hourlong South Park special drew a 0.82 rating among adults 18-49 and 1.74 million viewers (compared to 1.16 and 2.27 million for a prior special in September). Tucker Carlson Tonight claimed the biggest total audience with 3.41 million people tuning into the Fox News show, about 120,000 more than The Rachel Maddow Show (3.29 million) on MSNBC.
