The very best movies of 2021 are probably yet to come, given we're only three months into the year, but there are already some serious contenders.
That's especially noteworthy considering last year was a tenuous one full of stalled productions, streaming deals, and delays. In fact, some of the most-anticipated films of 2021 were on our watch list last year. (Looking at you, Dune.) Meanwhile, the much-talked-about film Malcolm & Marie was completely conceptualized, written, and filmed in quarantine.
What we're trying to say is that despite limitations due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, there are a huge variety of movies making their way onto streaming services and theaters this year. Whether you're looking forward to a Disney villain origin story like Cruella starring Emma Stone or a fascinating documentary about the career and conservatorship of pop star Britney Spears, there's something to look forward to (or even watch right now).
